    Board Games Afternoon

    On 24 January 2015, we held our annual board games afternoon in the church hall. Around two dozen people attending, of all ages, and great fun was had by all. Tea and homemade cakes were provided by the Social Committee. Games played include Ticket to Ride, Blokus, Blokus Duo, Scrabble, Forbidden Island, Qwirkle, My First Carcassonne, Hey that’s my fish!, and Snakes & Ladders.

    Launch of “Church Life” DVD

    On Sunday 11 January those of us in church we able to watch the premier showing of a new DVD about the life of St Mary’s. This DVD was put together by the skill and hard work of Pamela Smith and others from Epsom Moviemakers, a society who have met for many years in our church hall. The DVD includes short films about the history of the church, our Morris men, our services, the Father Willis organ, the church hall, our churchyard, our bells, and more.     Adult Confirmation Groups starting in January

    Are you interested in finding out more about the Christian faith? The Vicar will be starting one or two informal groups in the New Year, especially for those adults considering confirmation in the Church of England– all are welcome even if you aren’t sure you want to be confirmed. No previous knowledge assumed, open to all– it’s a chance to ask all those questions you’ve been wondering about for years!     Merry Christmas

    Very many thanks to all who made our Christmas services such a wonderful celebration: Sidesmen, servers, choir, and everyone else who contributed to our worship. We welcomed over a thousand people through our doors in the school services we hosted, and another thousand in our own parish Christmas services. Merry Christmas to one and all!

    Christmas Services 2014

    You are very welcome to attend our Advent and Christmas services. Sunday 30 November – Advent Sunday: 11am All-age service “Countdown to Christmas”. We are welcoming performing arts students from NESCOT who will be leading this service. Saturday 13 December: Children’s Christmas fun day. Find out more. Sunday 14 December: 5:30pm Nine Lessons and Carols. This is a choral celebration with traditional carols. Wednesday 24 Dec – Christmas Eve: 2:30pm & 4:00pm The Arrival at Bethlehem.     Operation Christmas Child a great success!

    A very big thank you to everyone who has taken part in this year’s Operation Christmas Child. Many different community groups joined us in this venture and you will be delighted to hear that we were able to send off 192 shoe box gifts, which will go to children in need around the world. The boxes were collected on Friday, Nov. 21st and taken to a collecting point near Guildford, where they will be checked and put into large crates ready for their onward journey. In the coming weeks, do pray that our gifts will reach their destinations safely and pray for the children and their families who will eventually…

    Remembrance Sunday 2014

    On 9 November 2014, Remembrance Sunday, the Civic Act of Remembrance for the Borough of Epsom and Ewell was held at St Mary’s, followed by Choral Mattins. The service was preceded by wreath-laying at the War Memorial. Attending were the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, the Worshipful Robert Foote, our MP and Lord Chancollor, the Rt Hon Chris Grayling, and representatives of many local organisations, including the Royal British Legion and 135 Geographic Squadron Royal Engineers of the Army Reserve. The congregation at the church service numbered 596– a record– including fifty people standing outside listening to the service on external loudspeakers we rigged especially for the occasion.     Bring your shoebox to church

    St. Mary’s is again supporting Operation Christmas Child. It is an exciting and worthwhile project, providing Christmas gifts for children around the world, and absolutely anyone can join in! Fill a shoebox with gifts for a child who would otherwise receive nothing. You can find out more at http://www.samaritans- purse.org.uk or chat to Linda Staff in church. If you’d like to participate, please fill a shoe box with gifts and wrap it following the instructions on the above website. You can then bring your shoe box to St Mary’s during office opening hours (9:30am-12noon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday) or on Saturday 8 November 10am-12noon or Saturday 15 November 10am-12noon.
