ABOUT THE MILLENNIUM-JUBILEE WINDOW

« Back to home
« Back to history

The window is the work of the distinguished stained glass artist Alan Younger. It has been installed by Godstone Glass. The artist writes: ontains a dove, symbolising the Holy Spirit, with cruciform halo, and inscription reading ?Sharing the love of Christ, the Light of the World, with the people of Ewell? (the parish mission statement). A very small lantern in the base is a reference to Holman Hunt?s painting ?The Light of the World?, and its association with Ewell. In the manner of a 16th century roundel the oval in the left-hand light contains figures representing the Virgin and Child. The flowers on the rectangles are all associated with the Blessed Virgin, and the sun, moon and twelve stars refer to Revelation 12. Although the twelve stars are primarily associated with the imagery of Our Lady, they have in this case also been given individual Biblical or other references (for purposes of identification). The exception is a star bearing the name of this church as a result of raising funds for an east European children?s charity. A book is being produced, giving details of all the individual choices, and, where appropriate, any dedicatory note.
