A DISTINCTION FOR JULIE AINSCOUGH
Our Director of Music, Julie Ainscough, recently won the David Lovatt Prize for Composition at the University of Surrey.
This prize commemorates a much-loved student who graduated two decades ago, but who sadly died in 2002. David Lovatt was a
keen and gifted composer, and this award in his memory compliments other university prizes in composition with a public
performance and a CD recording of the winning work by Gemini, the University's Artists in Residence. Julie's work is entitled
Virgen de la Soledad: cuatro poemas de Federico Garcia Lorca (Paso, Camino, Desco & La Luna Asoma), and is for soprano/clarinet/bass
clarinet/ percussion. It had its Premi?re at a concert at the University on Wednesday, 8 March.
