"Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat"
Saturday, 27 September 2008

Joseph - picture of choirs

Has there ever been a buzz like it at St.Mary's? - a distinct air of expectation.

Excited children in their various coloured T shirts, from three local schools, Ewell Grove, Ewell Castle and Wallace Fields, settled down to await their performance in the second half of the evening's programme. The audience were entertained first by choral and instrumental soloists from our junior parish choir, followed by the choir's rendering of John Rutter's delightful "For the Beauty of the Earth".

After a break for refreshments the children along with parish choir members assembled for the remainder of the evening's performance. The youngsters faced their families and friends with either looks of apprehension or wide grins - more of the latter. The next twenty minutes were a stirring delight and thoroughly enjoyed by all with Joseph carried aloft at the climax in his Amazing Techni-coloured Dreamcoat. Great restraint was needed not to join in from the lyrics in day-glo pink at hand.

Smiling, happy folk left the church humming Andrew Lloyd Webber's wonderful music no doubt for many days to come.
