ABOUT THE GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE

Garden of Remembrance The Garden is a long-term facility provided by St Mary?s for the people of Ewell. It is set in a quiet corner of what we call No.4 Churchyard. The plot is rectangular, being 26m long and 9m wide.

A perimeter border, planted with a selection of shrubs and perennials, is designed to provide a variation of colour throughout the seasons. The central lawned area, which will be used for ashes interment, is divided by a gravel pathway leading to the central feature of the Garden, which is a beautiful brick, tile, and stone arch set off by a semi-circular base. Within the centre of the arch is a polished stainless steel cross, suspended in a frame of galvanised steel, on which are engraved the words of assurance from Romans 6: ?Death shall have no more dominion.?

Garden of Remembrance The imaginative design, coupled with the combinations of materials skilfully brought together by the mason, has given us a remarkable focal point in the Garden. Overall, the structure, with its corner-stone and keystone, with its firm foundation and the promise engraved upon it, is rich in symbolism, and resonates with the message and hope of the gospel.
